Ginny's Christmas Miracle
by Theresa Shalaby

Just a few days before Christmas, as Santa was preparing his last batch of presents, he decided to check through his letters one last time, just to be sure. He sat by the roaring fire, as the snow gently fell, and the elves sat before him making their final preparations. He took off his boots, put on his glasses, lit his pipe, and spied a letter.

"Hmmm… What's this, a letter from fans of Patsy Cline??" he mused.

Dear Santa:

We know that you are so busy, and we have but one request. We want to hear our angel sing Christmas songs just once. You see, she was called home to Heaven before she got the chance to do that. Our hearts will never be whole until we can hear even just one. Christmas is empty without the most lovely of all angels singing Christmas praises. It might be hard, but we have faith in you, your kindness and magic. We don't ask for much, we give what we can, and simply live with her song in our hearts. Can you help us just this once??

Thank you for thinking of us, and we will wait with hope.

Your Friends in Patsyland

Well, Santa was so moved by this letter, that he got a tear in his eye. He sat back, scratched his head, and said to the elves, "This one is so difficult, this darling young girl has been away with the angels for so long... how can I do this?" The elves had no answers to offer, for they knew that, even with all of the magical powers that Santa has, there were some things that even magic cannot conjure.

Santa sat lost in thought over this dilemma. How could he let such nice folks down, who ask for so little?? As he sat in his big chair by the fire, the letter still in his lap, he stared out the window at the beautiful Northern Lights as the snow softly fell.

And he dozed off….

He awoke with a start to see someone staring at him, and to hear the elves giggling softly, and blushing. There before him stood a beautiful young woman, with a smooth, milky complexion, ebony eyes, and ruby lips. She was dressed in a white fur coat, gloves, and boots. Her dark hair softly framed her face, and was sparkling as the snowflakes melted from it.

She smiled and said, "Well, hello there Mr. Claus, or can I call ya Santa, Hoss?" and her laugh was robust and warm. She pulled off her gloves and put out her hand. "Hello, there, I'm Patsy Cline, pleased to meet ya."

Santa shook his head and rubbed his eyes, thinking that this vision would just disappear, but to no avail. She continued to stand before him, the light from the fire dancing in her warm, honest eyes. She cocked her head to one side, jingling the diamond earrings dangling from her ears. "Well, aren't ya gonna ask me to sit down, Hoss? I've been travelin' a long time, I sure could use a rest… can't a gal get a hot chocolate around here?" she laughed to the elves. They scurried away, one to find a chair, and the others to make some cocoa.

Santa, still dazed, said, "Oh, yes, my dear, I'm so sorry, where are my manners? I must have dozed off, and you have surprised me just a bit ~ please, sit down, Miss Cline!"

As a little blonde elf pulled up a chair, Patsy took her coat off, revealing a flowing red dress with a fur collar, and said, "Miss Cline?? Oh, Hoss, just call me Ginny, that's what all my friends call me, and heck, I've been a fan of yours forever, ya know, I always believe in ya!!!"

"Thank ya for the chair, little darlin,'" she said to the elf, and blew him a kiss as he ran away giggling.

Santa looked at Patsy and asked, "What brings you here? It is so hard to get free from the Angel Choir this time of year, and rarely are angels permitted to travel, even to see me."

Settling back into the chair, and sipping her cocoa, she said, "Well, I've been working on something, something very special for my Hosses down on Earth. I know that they miss me, and I want them to know that I'm ok, and love 'em all, so I put together this little CD of Christmas songs. I came to ask you if you might be able to help me get it out to them, it would mean so much to me Santa, could you help me?"

Santa was amazed!!! How could this happen?? She had the very item that her fans wanted so badly, had asked for, and his problem was solved!! How could it be?? It was a miracle, and Santa was elated!! "Well, honey, I'd be happy to do this for you. I know that you traveled such a long way, and I will see to it that this gets out to them. You know, I just got a letter today. They were asking me for this very thing, and I had no idea how I could possibly do it. How could you have known??"

Patsy grinned, took Santa's hand in hers, and said, "See, darlin', sometimes when folks get together, and wish and hope real hard, and love and believe in it with all their hearts, it all adds up to somethin' real special, and it makes miracles happen. That's the way love works, Santa."

She paused for a moment. "You make sure they get it now, ok?"

"Well, of course I will, Ginny, I promise you."

"Good, Santa. I'm real grateful, you know. I've been away for such a long time, but they still love me, I just can't believe it," she said, as tears glimmered in her eyes.

"Now, now, no need for tears, sweet one. Love only grows over time, and there is only joy in that." Santa assured her.

"Oh, I know, Hoss, I'm just so happy so many folks still think of me. This is my way of tellin' them that I love them, too."

"I know, Ginny, don't you worry about anything. Your friends will get this treasure, you have my word. It looks so beautiful, too. Your picture is angelic, they will love it so much, I'm sure!"

"Well, thank ya, Santa, and now, I must be on my way. I have a long trip, and that Choir just gets antsy when I ain't there, I'm tellin' ya!" She laughed.

With that, Patsy stood up, and Santa stood up with her. She put on her coat, turned to leave, and as she flipped her collar up, she turned back and kissed Santa's cheek with her soft red lips. "Santa, thank you so much… maybe I'll see ya again sometime," she said softly, gazing warmly into his eyes.

Santa blushed, and said, "I hope so too, darling angel. There are few as sweet as you. Just know that you are loved."

"I do Santa, just tell them that I love them, too."

Then she walked out of the room… and was gone….

Santa sat gazing at the album, as tears of joy and hope fell from his eyes. What a magical visit it had been!! Angels don't get to travel often, and this was one of Heaven's most precious, making it all the more miraculous to him. He gazed into the fire, feeling such warmth and peace in his heart….

"Santa? HEY Santa!!! Hello… Santa!! Wake up!!!" cried his chief elf. "You have to finish your letter reading now. You've been sleeping for a long time now, you've only read this one letter!"

"Goodness!!!" cried Santa, as he bolted upright. "I had the most amazing dream! I dreamt that young Patsy Cline had visited me, and my problem was solved. Oh, if only… but what a dream it was… sure wish it was real.…"

Santa sighed, sat up, rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and reached over to the table for another letter, and as he looked down on his lap…

…there sat the CD!!

"No!! It was just a dream, it can't be!!"

The elves gathered round, pointing at Santa and laughing. "What is it? What is so funny, little ones?"

An elf handed him a small mirror, and pointed to Santa's cheek, where he saw the red lipstick from where he'd been kissed by an angel…!

He gazed at the red-lipstick'd kiss on his cheek, touched it gently with his fingertips, and said, "Darling angel, your wish is my command. Your friends will have a merry Christmas this year indeed!"

Tears welled up in his eyes as he realized what had happened: that the miracle was real. Love transcends all boundaries, and can even surprise an old magician like Saint Nick.

Merry Christmas (and Patsylove) to all, and to all a good night!!
